Step 1: Download Mendeley Desktop
- Go to the official Mendeley Desktop download page:
👉 https://www.mendeley.com/download-desktop - Click the “Download Mendeley Desktop for Windows” button.
✅ Step 2: Run the Installer
- Once downloaded, locate the installer file (usually
Mendeley_Portable.zip) in your Downloads folder. - Extract zip file to launch the installer.
- If prompted by Windows User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to allow installation.
✅ Step 3: Complete the Installation
- The Mendeley Setup Wizard will open.
- Follow the on-screen instructions:
- Accept the license agreement.
- Choose an installation location (or leave the default).
- Click Install.
- Wait for the installation to complete, then click Finish.
✅ Step 4: Launch and Sign In
- Open Mendeley Desktop from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
- Log in with your Mendeley account or create one if you don’t have it.
- You’re now ready to:
- Add documents
- Organize references
- Insert citations into Word (with the citation plugin)
💡 Optional: Install Citation Plugin for Word
Restart Word to start using Mendeley Cite-O-Matic in the toolbar.
Mendeley will prompt you to install the MS Word plugin.
Click Install now when asked.
